DBA and Programmer's Challenge 2018

After asking over and over again you finally got approval for that much needed downtime on the production database that is in desperate need of some maintenance.

Over the years the Progress versions have been patched and hot fixed.
Version upgraded were done by doing database conversions only.
And some parameters are even still set to v6 defaults ☹
Not even to mention about the quick and dirty database definition changes done by the numerous developers over the years.

All this ‘neglect’ has left the database in need of your magic touch…

So show us what you got !

The Challenge this year is simple, or so it may seem…

Review the database and do some maintenance and ‘improvements’.

Submit a summarized report with your findings and changes and you’ll be judged accordingly.
We will also be running various benchmarks before and after to check for any performance improvements.
(Bonus points will be given for identifying and pointing out some of the notable issues found and fixed.)

Enter by emailing: i-want-to-participate@pugchallenge.eu and we will send the DBA Challenge detail to you.

Don't forget the feedback session on Friday at 4.30pm in Manchester room where we will be discussing the methods used and awarding prizes.
